2009-2010
After
being out of print for almost a decade, my solo CD
"Inside My Car" has risen from the ashes and emerged
bigger and better than ever. The initial
version of IMC was released in 1992. It was
the first album on the October Eve Records label and
it got good reviews. Unfortunately, towards
the end of the recording process I ran out of
money. As a result, a key overdub was never
completed, several songs were omitted and the record
was never properly mastered. Looking back, I
should have waited until I got additional financing
but I was young, naive and in a hurry to get the CD
out. As much as I liked "Inside My Car" I
wasn't thrilled with it. By the time Hair Of
The Dog took off in the late 1990's I no longer had
the time to devote to The Rick Bedrosian Band, the
main promotional vehicle for the material on IMC.
As a result, when the first boxes of IMC CD's sold
out I decided not to make any more of them and I
moved on.
Fast forward to 2009. While rummaging through
my stock room I found a few dozen copies of "Inside
My Car" that I had saved. I thought, why not
re-issue a greatly improved version of the CD?
Immediately, I got to work writing the "missing
vocal arrangement" for the "Faded Blue" middle
eight. Then I located master mixes of
"Midnight Music City USA", "Lucky Guy", "One More
Fool", "Too Much Distance instrumental" (a song that
I used as the theme music for my TV show "Up Beat")
and "Why Why Why". After a few recording,
mastering and sequencing sessions at Cotton Hill
Studios, "Inside My Car" was finished, again.
This time I'm really proud of it. It's longer
than the previous version and sonically there's no
comparison. "Inside My Car" features some
outstanding guest musicians too. They include
Chuck D'Aloia, Al Kash, Al Quaglieri and Eddie
Angel. Ten of the songs were written by me and
the other four were written by Marshall Chapman,
Fred Koller, Pam Tillis and Blackie Farrell: people
that I got to know and work with when I lived in
Nashville. I really hope that you enjoy
listening to "Inside My Car" as much as I enjoyed
making it. Being able to bring IMC back to
life after all these years was a lot of fun. "Inside My
Car" will be available at all Hair Of The Dog shows
or you can order it through
the mail.
And speaking of Marshall Chapman, I was recently
reading her exceptional book "Goodbye, Little Rock
and Roller" when I came across my name in it!
Back in the 1980's when I was living in Nashville, I
had a brief stint in her band The Love Slaves.
She's a talented and well regarded singer/songwriter
and now she's writing some fantastic books.
"Goodbye, Little Rock and Roller" is an interesting
and sometimes hilarious autobiography, detailing
Marshall's trials and tribulations and how they
influenced her song writing. She's currently
working on a new book.
If you go out to eat in Albany, NY there's a chance
that you might see one of
my photographs. I recently sold copies of
"Abbey Road Graffiti" to two first-rate Albany
restaurants: New World Bistro Bar and Franklin's
Tower. You should support these acclaimed,
independently owned eateries, and not just because
they're displaying my work. The food at New
World and Franklin's is amazing. As I continue
to span the globe capturing new photos, please feel
free to come out and see my latest work at an
upcoming art show.
Don't
go to the movies or bring a film home without first
listening to
"Rick's Picks". OK you can, but why would
you? "Rick's Picks", a humorous movie review podcast
series is in its third season. New episodes
can be automatically sent to your computer via Itunes every week and it's free. So far we've
won two national awards for excellence: The
Communicator Award and The MarCom Gold Award.
Recently, I was invited by Proctor's Theater and The
Mossey Group to be a featured guest at their "It
Came From Schenectady" 24 Hour Sci-Fi Film Festival
in Schenectady, NY. I hosted a trivia contest
and introduced the festival's final feature:
"Creature From The Black Lagoon" which was shown in
3D. The festival was a huge success thanks to
the efforts of Larry Mossey and the rest of his hard
working group of movie aficionados. I had a
wonderful time entertaining the crowd, meeting new
movie people and watching "Creature" for the first
time on a big screen.
Picture
this, a Rick Bedrosian book. October Eve
Publishing has just released my new book, "Picture
This". "Picture This" contains 24 of my most
popular images, together in an affordable volume.
It's available in paperback or hardcover.
"Picture This" can only be purchased at art shows
and by mail order.
With everything that's going on I've had to
postpone the release of the Silver Chicken CD.
As many of you know,
Silver Chicken
was a popular Upstate New York country-rock band in
the late 1970's. We had a great batch of
original songs and by the time we split up, a large
and loyal fan base. Luckily I recorded a
great many of our live shows on my half-inch
reel-to-reel tape recorder and I engineered and
produced our only demo recording in my studio.
About a year ago, after transferring all of the
analog tapes to digital files, I began going through
everything and taking notes. My goal was and
still is, to put together a CD of Silver Chicken's
best work. Because there's so much going on
for me right now I've had to postpone this project
for a while. The good news is the music is now
permanently preserved on disc. As you can
imagine after all the years of neglect, the tapes
were beginning to disintegrate!
Finally, I want to remind everyone to come out and
hear Hair Of The Dog
either in The USA or on our next
Tour Of Ireland. Like "Inside My Car",
Hair Of The Dog is bigger and better than ever.
We've recently learned a new batch of songs that
showcase Eric Finn on violin and we've greatly
upgraded our sound system. The result is a
better than ever Hair Of The Dog experience.
It never ceases to amaze me that when I run into
people that I've known for a really long time that
have never seen Hair Of The Dog, they almost always
say something like, "Oh you're playing that Irish
shit now. Don't you miss rock and roll?"
The confusion is understandable but infuriating none
the less. When HOTD started in the early 90's
we were an Irish bluegrass/folk band with rock and
roll sensibilities. Over the years we've
slowly morphed into an Irish rock band with
bluegrass/folk sensibilities. What is Irish
music? Is it U2? Is it Cherish The
Ladies? Is it Solas? Is it The Clancy
Brothers? The truth is, Irish music is many
things. But good music is still good music.
Hair Of The Dog plays good Irish rock music
including a lot of quality original songs written by
Mike DeAngelis and Kevin McKrell. Come out and
see for yourself.
